    HIL is hiring Direct Support Professionals for our mental health programs that provide support services to adults with mental health needs and who require guidance in making healthy decisions.  Our programs may support clients with some AODA (alcohol and other drug abuse) challenges.  We will rely on you to help maximize each individual's potential.

    Hours: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift  (schedules include every other weekend and some holidays)

    Status: Full-time and Part-time

    Essential functions include:

    • Mentor, organize, and/or assist clients in their choices and actions in the areas of 1) daily living activities, 2) developing and maintaining positive self-image, 3) personal hygiene and health monitoring, 4) social and communication skills, 5) functional community skills such as volunteering, 6) recreational activities, 7) completing homework, and 8) budgeting and planning.
    • Assist clients as needed with maintaining their personal living space, laundry and self-care.
    • Help to create an environment that focuses the clients on successful living in the community and empowers them to take more control of their lives. Provide resources and support to encourage clients to be responsible for their actions and decisions.
    • Demonstrate the understanding of behaviors associated with alcohol and other drug addiction to assist in client-centered planning and support services.
    • Assist and encourage recovery and independence.
    • Administer medications per policy and promptly report any errors or concerns with medication administration to the Supervisor.
    • Monitor clients for illness and injury. Document and report all concerns to the Supervisor promptly.  Follow procedures for taking action and notifying others.


    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • Maintain self-composure and self-control under stressful conditions. Clients may exhibit physical aggression, challenging, or offensive behaviors.
    • Demonstrate effective written and oral English communication skills
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Valid Wisconsin Class D driver's license for 3 years with an acceptable driving record per HIL's policy; access to an insured vehicle is strongly preferred
    • Successful completion of a caregiver background check as mandated by Wisconsin Chapter DHS 12
    • Successful completion of a pre-employment TB test and health screen
