    Homes for Independent Living (HIL) operates more than 100 programs located in more than 14 Wisconsin counties, including Washington County.  We strive to be a leader in providing the best in residential and community-based services for individuals with a wide array of disabilities.  We are hiring for our mental health programs that provide support services to adults with mental health needs and who require guidance in making healthy decisions.  Our Supported Apartment Program services more than 20 clients.

    Hours: 1st and 2nd shift

    Status: Casual

    Responsibilities

    As a member of the care team, you will assist the individuals we support in the following ways:

    • Support clients with mental illness
    • Transport clients to their desired destination including but not limited to community events, leisure activities, day programs, household errands, medical appointments, and religious worship services
    • Empower clients to use their own coping skills and make healthy decisions
    • Health monitoring including medication administration, personal hygiene, etc..
    • Recreational activities such as watching movies, shopping, & walks
    • Daily living activities such as meal preparation and light housekeeping
    • Community integration skills 
    • Planning and participating in recreational activities within and outside the home
    • Redirect challenging behaviors

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated skill and/or potential in working with individuals with special needs in a supportive environment.
    • Exceptional communication and problem solving skills
    • Desire and ability to provide support to people needing assistance with daily living skills
    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • High school diploma, equivalent, or three years of equivalent work experience
    • Valid Wisconsin Class D driver's license for 3 years with an acceptable driving record per HIL's policy
    • Access to an insured vehicle is strongly preferred
    • Successful completion of a caregiver background check as mandated by Wisconsin Chapter DHS 12
    • Successful completion of a pre-employment TB test and health screen
